This award aims to recognise the top renewable energy engineering projects in Ireland and the teams that drive them. If you can demonstrate planning, designing, and delivering renewable energy projects such as wind, solar, offshore, grid integration, energy storage, hydrogen, or hybrid systems, which are essential for Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon and sustainable energy future, that have been completed or substantially completed within the last 12 months, then this is the award for you. Applications must be made either by the project engineer (individual, firm, or department) or by a project collaborator, but only if submitted jointly with the project engineer, as we can accept only one submission per project. Entry is by a 5-page A4 PDF submission; the judges will be looking for a clear plan and evidence that it is delivering on core objectives, paying particular attention to the criteria listed below.

  • Background: Please outline your career background or your organisation's background, and provide context for the renewable energy engineering project you are submitting for consideration.
  • Project: Describe the engineering project in detail, including its purpose, size, scope, technology type (e.g. wind, solar, offshore, storage, hydrogen, or hybrid systems), timeline, capacity, budget, and any sustainability certifications or environmental considerations. Include photos and any relevant technical documentation.
  • Excellence: How did you approach the engineering project and ensure excellence in its design and execution? What engineering processes and technologies were used to ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and reliability, while meeting all relevant standards and regulations? What made this renewable energy engineering project stand out from others in its field?
  • Challenges: Please highlight any challenges faced throughout the engineering project, such as technical, environmental, regulatory, or logistical difficulties, and describe how they were overcome.
  • Impact: What positive impact has the engineering project had on the community, environment, or energy sector it serves? What steps were taken to ensure the project adhered to sustainability and decarbonisation best practices? How has the engineering project contributed to Ireland’s renewable energy targets or addressed a significant challenge or opportunity? How does it stand to impact the future of engineering and the transition to sustainable energy?
