Engineering services and nuclear company AtkinsRéalis has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Galway-headquartered Irish engineering and project management consultancy Patrick J Tobin & Co. Ltd., known as TOBIN, according to Yahoo Finance, in a move that will grow its Irish workforce to over 700 employees.

Founded in 1952, TOBIN employs approximately 200 people across five offices in Ireland, delivering multidisciplinary engineering, technical and programme management services across building and places, water, transportation, and environmental and planning disciplines.

The acquisition builds on AtkinsRéalis's 25-year presence in Ireland, where it currently employs around 500 people with a regional headquarters in Dublin and offices in Cork, Galway and Dundalk. The company's existing Irish portfolio includes multidisciplinary design for Iarnród Éireann's DART+ West and DART+ South West rail schemes, engineering and project management for EirGrid's electricity transmission investment programme, water security work for Uisce Éireann, advanced works for the Dublin Metrolink, and infrastructure support at Dublin Airport.

President and CEO Ian L. Edwards said: "Ireland has a strong pipeline for infrastructure, energy and sustainable development. The acquisition of TOBIN builds on our 25-year heritage in Ireland and brings highly complementary skills and expertise into our UK and Ireland business, an important part of our global strategy to build scale and depth in our key end markets."

TOBIN managing director Ciaran McGovern said the merger marks "an exciting next chapter," adding that both firms share "a strong commitment to technical excellence, collaboration and long-term partnerships."

The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
