BAM has topped out the new Applied Science and Information Technology Building at TUS Moylish Campus in Limerick. The five-storey, 5,200m² development is scheduled for completion in 2027, adding STEM teaching and research capacity to the Mid-West region.
As main contractor, BAM is delivering the facility, which will feature specialist science laboratories, modern computer suites, flexible teaching areas, a large lecture theatre and academic offices. Located at the heart of the Moylish Campus, the building is designed to strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematical education and research capacity across the region. The development also incorporates rooftop photovoltaic panels and a Sustainable Drainage System, reflecting sustainability standards increasingly required of new higher-education infrastructure in Ireland.
BAM Ireland has delivered a range of higher-education and public infrastructure projects across the country, working alongside third-level institutions, healthcare providers and public bodies on complex construction and civil engineering programmes.
The new facility will support capacity for approximately 700 additional students and is intended to help address future skills needs across the Mid-West and beyond. The project forms part of the second phase of Ireland's Higher Education Public Private Partnership Programme, which is delivering modern STEM facilities across multiple third-level institutions nationwide.
Darren, of BAM, said: "It's rewarding to see this new facility taking shape and the opportunities it will create for future students, researchers and staff. We look forward to continuing our work with our partners as the project progresses towards completion in 2027."
The structural driver is the need to deliver modern, technically complex STEM teaching and laboratory space that can support growing student numbers and applied research capacity at Irish third-level institutions. BAM's delivery of the ASIT Building brings together civil, structural, mechanical and electrical disciplines within a single construction programme.
For the sector, the topping-out milestone marks a further step in BAM's delivery of educational infrastructure across Ireland, reinforcing the company's role delivering high-quality teaching, research and STEM facilities for third-level institutions nationwide.
