Interest in liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure is surging as the Alaska LNG project gains traction. POSCO International’s preliminary agreement last month with lead developer Glenfarne Alaska LNG signals increased Korean participation and renewed momentum across the sector.

Daewoo E&C has built 11 LNG liquefaction plants worldwide, including projects in Russia, Algeria, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Nigeria. The company made a landmark entry into the competitive international LNG market as the first Korean lead contractor for Nigeria’s NLNG Train 7 project, securing a 40 percent stake. This achievement positioned Daewoo E&C alongside established global engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms such as Bechtel, McDermott, Saipem, and Technip Energies, demonstrating its capacity to deliver complex, large-scale projects.

Currently, Daewoo E&C has resumed LNG operations in Mozambique and is actively pursuing opportunities across Africa, the Middle East, and Papua New Guinea, seeking to expand its footprint in an industry experiencing sustained growth. LNG combined-cycle power plants, which use liquefied natural gas to generate power through gas turbines and capture waste heat for steam turbines, are highly efficient and produce far lower carbon emissions than coal or oil-fired facilities. Rising global demand for cleaner energy, accelerated by power-hungry AI-driven data centres, further strengthens market prospects.

A company spokesperson noted that Daewoo E&C intends to leverage its technical expertise and project experience to solidify its position as a top-tier global construction company. With its strong track record and proven capabilities, the firm is widely regarded as a leading candidate for the upcoming Alaska LNG project, which involves constructing production facilities and liquefaction terminals, offering a significant opportunity to shape the next phase of global LNG infrastructure.
