Dornan has marked a major engineering milestone on a circa €48 million data centre project in Ireland, following a groundbreaking ceremony held on 20 July. The milestone showcases Dornan's integrated civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical engineering capability, delivered through its dedicated Advanced Technology Division, which brings together specialist engineering disciplines under a single technical leadership structure.
Dornan's engineering team is delivering the development as general contractor, with structural steel installation beginning on 29 July, ahead of the baseline programme date. The milestone was marked on site with project engineers, subcontractors and client representatives recognised for their contribution to technical progress.
Brendan Herbert, Managing Director of Dornan's Advanced Technology Division, said: "This project demonstrates the breadth of Dornan's General Contracting capability and the expertise we bring together across multiple disciplines."
Dornan, headquartered in Cork, is a specialist mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and engineering contractor with more than 1,350 engineers and technical staff across 10 offices in Ireland, the UK, continental Europe and the Nordics. Established in 1966, the company became part of Turner Construction in early 2025, joining the US group's advanced technology and engineering platform in Europe.
The structural driver is sustained demand for integrated engineering delivery capacity in Ireland, as data centre operators require general contractors capable of coordinating civil, structural and MEP engineering disciplines under a single technical team. Dornan's Advanced Technology Division was established specifically to meet this multidisciplinary engineering requirement.
The development is targeting LEED Gold certification, with Dornan's engineering team working alongside environmental and archaeological specialists as construction progresses. Engineers on the project are engaging with neighbouring stakeholders throughout the works, with technical communication intended to address local requirements and minimise disruption.
For the sector, the milestone underscores Dornan's engineering capacity to deliver complex, multidisciplinary data centre projects ahead of schedule, reinforcing Ireland's position in advanced technology construction.
