Global engineering conference opens in Shanghai highlighting green innovation

The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) 2025 General Assembly and Global Engineering Congress has opened in Shanghai, bringing together representatives from engineering organizations in over 60 countries. The event, themed “Engineering shapes a green future,” is jointly hosted by WFEO, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Shanghai municipal government.

During the congress, the “2025 Global Top 10 Engineering Achievements” were unveiled, showcasing groundbreaking innovations such as antibody-drug conjugates, the Blackwell GPU architecture, the DeepSeek open-source large language model, humanoid robots, and the barrier encircling project in the Taklamakan Desert, Xinjiang. Experts highlighted that these accomplishments reflect the most advanced technological levels in engineering and represent significant original breakthroughs capable of addressing pressing global challenges.

The event also featured the release of the Shanghai Declaration, which emphasises the role of engineering in building a greener, sustainable future through proactive innovation and collaboration. Additionally, engineering capability workshops running through Friday provide delegates with practical insights to strengthen global engineering capacity and promote knowledge exchange across disciplines.

Founded in 1968, WFEO is the largest global non-governmental organization representing all engineering disciplines, connecting more than 100 member countries and regions and over 30 million engineers worldwide. The China Association for Science and Technology has been a member since 1981, reinforcing China’s active engagement in advancing engineering excellence on the international stage.
