Graham, a County Down-based contractor, has finished foundation piling at a £70 million sustainable leisure facility in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, representing substantial progress on the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum Redevelopment, according to Ground Engineering.
Procured through the Pagabo Major Works Framework, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council commissioned the development, which aims to meet Passivhaus energy efficiency standards. Passivhaus certification represents stringent environmental performance criteria for building design and construction, requiring minimal energy consumption for heating and cooling.
Construction now advances to underground infrastructure installation, incorporating drainage networks and structural foundations. Site activities extend beyond the primary building area, encompassing subsurface preparation for vehicle parking and roadway access infrastructure supporting the broader leisure campus development.
William Gott, project manager at Graham, said: "Completing the piling works marks an important milestone for this landmark project. Our team and partners have worked incredibly hard to reach this stage, and we're pleased to see strong progress on site." He added that the company looks forward to moving into the next phase and continuing to help deliver a modern, energy efficient leisure facility for the local community.
Barry McElduff, chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, said: "It is excellent to see the project reach this important milestone, with piling now complete and the next stages of construction already underway. This iconic project remains on target, and each step forward brings us closer to delivering a state-of-the-art leisure facility in Enniskillen."
The 2028 opening will provide River Erne-facing amenities including aquatic zones, gymnasium facilities, wellness spaces, sensory rooms, children's areas and dining. External features comprise play parks, cycling tracks, synthetic pitches, waterfront zones and trail networks. UK Government funding contributes £20 million toward development costs.
