South Korean engineering firm Hyundai Engineering has received a letter of award for the construction of a gas treatment facility and auxiliary infrastructure at the Karachaganak complex in Kazakhstan, according to The Asia Business Daily, marking a further expansion of the company's project portfolio across the CIS region.
Located 1,260 kilometres west of Astana, the Karachaganak facility will be engineered to process five billion cubic metres of raw gas annually. Hyundai Engineering will carry responsibility for engineering and procurement work, with the local subsidiary of Italian construction company Saipem participating as a construction consortium partner.
The award follows Hyundai Engineering's successful delivery of several large-scale projects across Central Asia, including work in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, which the company said underpinned its competitive positioning throughout the bidding process.
The company stated: "This contract once again demonstrates our capabilities and technological expertise in gas treatment plants in the global market. Drawing on our accumulated experience in the CIS region, we will successfully complete this project and further solidify our position in the global plant market."
The Karachaganak complex is one of the largest hydrocarbon and condensate fields in the world, situated in the Aksai district of western Kazakhstan. Its scale and strategic importance to the country's energy production infrastructure makes the gas treatment expansion a significant undertaking for Kazakhstan's upstream processing capacity.
Hyundai Engineering attributed the contract win to its recognised track record in competitive bidding for complex plant engineering projects across resource-rich markets, citing its accumulated regional expertise as a key differentiator against international competitors.
The award reinforces the South Korean firm's position as a specialist in large-scale gas processing infrastructure and reflects sustained international demand for engineering capability in Central Asian energy development, where several major hydrocarbon programmes remain active or in expansion phases.
