Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK is accelerating its environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments with new investments in solar power, fuel-efficient machinery and strong site safety performance across major UK infrastructure projects.

The Ruthin-headquartered firm’s latest ESG report highlights significant achievements in reducing carbon emissions and improving sustainability across projects such as the Penrhyn Bay coastal defence scheme in North Wales, North Kyle Wind Farm in Scotland and the Vita Nova Centre in Cheshire.

At the Vita Nova Centre, a 100 per cent carbon-neutral operations building, fuel consumption was cut by more than 50 per cent through the use of solar-powered generators. A cement stabilisation design eliminated the need for 600 vehicle movements, and a rainwater harvesting system reduced water consumption by 85 per cent.

Environmental stewardship was further demonstrated at Penrhyn Bay, where Jones Bros successfully relocated a shore-sized habitat of honeycomb reef worm as part of the £7.5M coastal programme. The project achieved an ‘excellent’ rating under the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), scoring perfectly in categories for community respect and workforce value.

The company also marked a key health and safety milestone at Scotland’s £300M North Kyle Wind Farm, surpassing 500,000 on-site hours without a lost time incident. Chairman Huw Jones MBE said, “Responsible business practices are at the heart of everything we do. We aim to lead by example and inspire others in the industry to do the same.”

Beyond its ESG record, Jones Bros continues to expand its clean energy portfolio, including work on the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm, Morlais tidal energy scheme and the Havant Thicket Reservoir. The firm is also investing in the next generation of engineers, having trained more than 300 apprentices over the past decade.
