Global engineering and sustainability consultancy Ramboll has appointed Phil Kelly as head of department for buildings advisory and consultancy across the UK and Ireland, according to BDaily, reinforcing the firm's focus on decarbonisation, net-zero and circularity services within the built environment.

Kelly, who will be based in Ramboll's Leeds office, returns to the consultancy having previously led its sustainable solutions and sustainability teams between 2019 and 2023. He brings more than 20 years of experience delivering complex sustainability and building performance projects across the UK.

His project portfolio includes The Ray Dolby Centre at the Cavendish Laboratory, Oxford North and Cambridge Children's Hospital, alongside advisory work with organisations including the World Green Building Council.

Kelly said: "It's fantastic to be back at Ramboll, whose focus and dedication to promoting sustainability and excellence aligns with my own. I'm excited to be championing the partner for sustainable change vision to our existing clients, as well as sharing this vision with new ones by growing the business' advisory and consultancy business in buildings."

Jason Layfield, executive director for buildings at Ramboll, said Kelly "brings a wealth of experience in sustainable building design and performance and is a recognised international thought leader," adding that the appointment supports the firm's ambition to grow its advisory offering across Europe.

The hire reflects sustained demand for specialist decarbonisation and building performance expertise as organisations across the UK and Ireland accelerate efforts to meet net-zero targets across their property portfolios.
