UK wireless connectivity provider UK Connect has launched UK Connect Professional Services, an on-demand field engineer offering for managed service providers and channel partners across the UK, according to ITBrief, addressing a persistent operational gap in short-notice engineering coverage for technology service businesses.

The credit-based model allows partners to book senior field engineers for specific jobs without employing in-house staff, with no contracts or minimum commitments required. Jobs are booked by email, with UK Connect generating an engineering brief covering site details, scope of work and access instructions. A digital completion report with a job checklist and engineer sign-off is issued after every visit.

UK Connect cited figures showing three in four MSPs identify field operations as their biggest operational challenge. Around one third of subcontracted field engineers fail to arrive on time or attend with the correct equipment, while coordination overhead can erode 15 to 20% of margin on service jobs.

Channel and partner manager Sara Rose said: "By the time you add employer's National Insurance, pension contributions, van lease, fuel, insurance, tools, PPE, training, and the management overhead of scheduling and dispatching, the true cost of a single in-house field engineer is typically 35–45% higher than their base salary. Our model removes virtually all of these costs from your balance sheet. You pay per-job, with credits that scale up and down with your workload."

The service currently supports MSPs, wireless internet service providers and IT consultancies across the UK, completing more than 3,100 jobs annually with a 97% first-time fix rate on break-fix call-outs. Engineers with at least five years of experience can be deployed to any UK postcode.
