Water Solutions Ireland has announced plans to develop a purpose-built headquarters at Carnbane Business Park, Newry, remaining on its existing site but expanding into a new facility designed to support its next growth phase, with construction subject to planning approval and targeted for completion in July 2028.

Water Solutions Ireland Ltd (Companies House NI625668) is a Newry-based process, mechanical and electrical engineering contractor incorporated in July 2014, wholly owned by WSI Group Ltd and led by directors Patrick Cunningham and Conor McKeown. 

The company specialises in the design, construction, commissioning, extension and refurbishment of water and wastewater treatment plants for municipal and industrial clients across the UK and Ireland, operating as a full-service MEICA contractor. Since 2018, WSI has grown from six to 47 employees; estimated annual revenue stands at approximately $9.39 million (€8.6 million). The new headquarters investment is self-funded by the directors.

The structural driver is a sustained capital investment cycle in water and wastewater infrastructure on both sides of the Irish border. NI Water's PC21 Business Plan (2021 to 2028), extended by one year and endorsed by the Utility Regulator, commits Northern Ireland's water utility to a step-change in infrastructure investment to modernise its ageing network and comply with drinking water and wastewater treatment standards. 

In the Republic, Uisce Éireann's Infrastructure Capital Alliance is delivering a multi-billion-euro capital programme with equivalent demand for specialist MEICA contractors. Both programmes require precisely the process engineering, mechanical installation and electrical controls expertise that WSI delivers, creating a durable forward workload that justifies the capital commitment of a purpose-built headquarters.

The headquarters decision also reflects a talent retention logic that regional engineering firms consistently cite: purpose-built facilities with modern collaborative workspaces attract graduate engineers who would otherwise relocate to Belfast or Dublin, allowing a specialist contractor to maintain technical depth without suffering attrition to larger competitors.

For the sector, WSI's growth from six to 47 employees in seven years on the strength of cross-border water infrastructure procurement confirms that specialist MEICA contractors serving regulated utilities are among the most resilient SME engineering businesses in the current market.
